Common Merganser

A female common merganser.

I was fortunate enough to this this beautiful bird fairly close on the Quequechan River Rail Trail. Usually, I see them in the distance and photos would not be very good.

The bird was cautious and keep a good eye to tis surroundings. I think what kept it fairly clam was the large presence of mallards, geese, and few hooded mergansers. Although, the hooded mergansers were farther away then the mallards. Mallards are a most curious duck too. I walked to the shoreline and they swam up to me, no doubt looking for a handout.
